Tinnitus Adviser Training Courses

The BTA has announced dates for another four of its unique Tinnitus Adviser Training courses. This will bring to 36 the number of such courses the BTA has held, which have trained over 435 audiologists, hearing therapists, health professionals and volunteers.

The aims of the training is to raise participants’ awareness and increase their understanding of the use of counselling skills and the counselling process, with focus on specific issues of loss and the process of adjustment to living with tinnitus and introduce them to some of the practical coping aids available at present.

Marie and Jack Shapiro Prize Winner Announced

The British Tinnitus Association will present the prestigious Marie and Jack Shapiro Prize at its 17^th Annual Conference, due to be held at Sheffield Hallam University, on Thursday 9^th September 2010.

The award, which is presented each year at the BTA’s annual Conference, recognises the piece of published research by a UK-based author most likely to result in improved treatment or public awareness of tinnitus. The prize is intended to encourage researchers, public communicators and others to develop an interest in tinnitus and to recognise their efforts. The award, now in its fifth year, is named after the late Jack Shapiro, founder of the BTA who passed away earlier this year, and his wife Marie.

 

The winner of the 2010 Marie and Jack Shapiro Prize is Dr Peyman Adjamian, who also receives a cash sum of £250. His paper is titled ‘The mechanisms of tinnitus: Perspectives from human functional neuroimaging’, and was co-authored by Prof. Deb Hall and Dr. Magdalena Sereda.It was one of five papers shortlisted for the prize, which was judged by the BTA’s Professional Advisers Committee and its Council of Management.
