About Tinnitus

The word 'tinnitus' comes from the Latin word for 'ringing' and is the perception of sound in the absence of any corresponding external sound.

The British Tinnitus Association is a world leader in providing support and advice about tinnitus. We provide accurate, reliable and authoritative information, much of it written by medical professionals or clinical researchers. Most of it is available on this website and is free to download and use. If we've been of help you might consider joining the Association or perhaps supporting us with a donation to help us to help others; we rely on public support for funding.

On this site you can find out what tinnitus is you can see what tinnitus looks like and also hear what tinnitus sounds like

The BTA is contacted on a regular basis by the UK media who are looking for people with tinnitus to share their experience. Personal stories allow people with tinnitus to relate to others affected by the condition and those without tinnitus to understand it more clearly. If you are happy to share your tinnitus experience with others please send your details to the BTA office in Sheffield. Your details will not be passed onto any third parties without your consent.
